Thanks, that's flattering! Fair use is fine: that is, nothing commercial, and please attribute this to me (a link would be cool!). Any doubts, feel free to email me at genderkid AT hotmail DOT com.

I like Creative Common licenses; sharing ideas is exciting. If you're familiar with this type of license, this is the one that I use:

I think of myself as a geek. It's handy because that's how most other people think of me too. Seriously, FTM, trans - whatever as long as it's self-respecting and no more than a few syllables long. Main disadvantage of "trans" is if you use it as a search term you get loads of people wanting to tell you all about trans fats. They're bad for you btw.

[P.S. I know this is an old post. I'm just in a random tag surfing kind of a mood!]

i was talking to someone recently about being stealth and being out...when to tell, who to tell, what to tell...etc. and we got on to talking about how "straight" people don't have to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity or who their partner is - how, as my friend worded it, "coming out... (is the last) burden". and then the conversation moved to censorship and we spoke about not censoring ourselves and leaving the other people wondering "is that person trans" and not necessarily worrying about whether or not we have to come out to them...

That's awesome! I think it is hard for people (trans people included) to get that being "out" is different as FTM/MTF than it is as gay or lesbian.

And yes, what a great thing to have an "oasis" like that. I hope it can remain one for you, even with your classmates' newfound knowledge.

I'm always pleased to see that you and I think along similar lines, and this was especially apparent to me when you mentioned culturally appropriating names. Cultural appropriation is my big pet peeve!

I personally have decided to keep my very gendered middle name. I was named after my father's childhood best friend (and my godmother) who was murdered and it seemed important to me that I honour their intentions. Besides, I want to honour her in my own way. Besides, it's kind of fun to be gender bending in my name ! :D

Good luck picking a name, and let me know what you pick.

As a goatee'd female identified person, I really enjoy this post. I'm hoping to get your permission to print it and share it. Can you contact me, or send me your email to contact you? I know this is public, but I want to have good internet etiquette before sharing it. Thanks!

I love that image, too, but I didn't design it -- I just took a picture of a graffiti which was made during the Pride March. This year's march is coming up soon, so if I see someone painting this again, I'll try to get you in touch with hir. That's certainly someone worth meeting :)

Dear GenderKid -- I really like your stencil of the figure running away from the 'men' door. I'm looking for something similar for the cover of my next book, 'Further Adventures of the Dialectic of Sex'. Have you done anything similar with multiple figures? Maybe a whole line of figures departing from the dualist gender imperative?

Thanks,

Mandy Merck
